Dear Mr. Gates:

You are among the most eminent computer persons and you do not display a convenient email as a recepticle for receiving PRIVATE, urgent and speedy communications. You ought to be shamed-facedly embarrassed! No wonder your Hotmail Team is so inept. Rather than surface mail and in the interest of urgency, I make this letter public in an attempt to solve the problem I shall briefly outline.


For many years I operated with a hotmail account wlombardy@hotmail.com. For about a year your “Hotmail Team” has blocked my account. That Team has literally thwarted every attempt to restore my account, including several attempts of friends with considerably more computer sabe than I. I was instructed to establish a second account: jamesbanek@hotmail.com, so that I would be prepared, in the unlikely event the Team would require a receptacle for a new password key. False hope! Your Team blocked that account too! Still possessed of ample patience, I established a third account: williamlombardy@hotmail.com, which somehow has functioned without much incident from your MSN Hotmail Team. But still after countless more attempts, I have been studiously rejected in my desire to restore wlombardy@hotmail.com.  Again literally every try was continually rejected by your Hotmail Team, which advised me that the information I had supplied did not indicate that the account was mine. How absurd is that? Security paranoia? Certainly! When I sought live help by telephone, I was regularly given a number that cared for billing problems. Are there no living beings remaining in your firm?


As by now you may note, this problem is long passed urgent. If your office cannot solve this seemingly simple problem, I presume I shall be forced to attempt more drastic measures. In short, I need the material in my account, the disruption of which is causing me serious harm in time, nervous energy and money. So yes or no? Do you think you can instruct your Hotmail so-called Team seriously to address this problem?


Many years ago after the Kasparov-Computer Match in Philadelphia, I read a report in your syndicated column in the New York Post. I was shocked that a gentleman of your stature could be responsible for the following words: “Skill at Chess is in no way an indication of intellectual acuity.”  I call to the support my degrees in Philosophy, Theology, Ethics and Educational Psychology. The last, as to an actual degree is  incomplete, but is nonetheless bolstered by a fairly extensive study of Brain Theory. So belatedly, I beg to differ with your opinion. But owing to the fact that I have allowed myself to be given  an enduring runaround, perhaps I may also conclude that skill at Chess is indeed no indication of intelligence!


Quite some time ago I addressed a personal surface letter to you. Since you were known for your Philanthropy, I had asked whether you might lend modest financial support to establishing a Website in which I would offer Chess Instruction, in my view a valid and most useful educational peoject. I received a rather crude response from your office “Mr. Gates does not …, in such projects". The letter from your office was insensibly unsigned by anyone, nor was there a printed name of any sort in order politely conclude the letter I received. Most abrupt and discourteous to say the least, to say nothing of intelligence. What a sorry person employed by you, a person who would even briefly consider such a response to a detailed letter sent in good faith, not understanding that his response represents an answer from Mr. William Gates. I do expect that I shall receive somewhat better treatment for the problem which I have amply described above.

Dinner

Had dinner at Little Poland, an authentic Polish-Ukranian eatery. But what do I have for fear of keeping my weight down? A tuna-salad plate! However, I couldn't turn down the potatoe pancakes, which I shared with [GM de facto] Robert Hungaski (my editor for "Understanding Chess"). We were commenting on the publication of other books, but final decision will be for another time. However, I was informed by Robert that GM Oscar Panno had appreciated my comment on his instructional books in the Spanish language. I had praised it as highly educational and having exquisite workmanship.
